My favorite part of being a bicycle mechanic is restoring bikes and giving them a second life! For many, a bicycle is more than just a frame with two wheels—it’s a cherished gift from a loved one, a family heirloom, or a reminder of meaningful moments and milestones. Bicycles hold stories, memories, and a sense of freedom, making their restoration a deeply rewarding process.

My clients bring me bicycles they want rebuilt and restored so they can ride them again safely and confidently. In many cases, restoring a bike is a more economical and sustainable alternative to purchasing a new one. A well-loved bicycle that has been sitting unused in a barn, garage, or shed can often be brought back to life with a thorough cleaning and strategic component replacements, adding another 10 to 20 years of reliable use.

Considering renewing your bicycle? Here is how the process works:
1.) BICYCLE ASSESSMENT: We’ll start with a discussion about your goals for the bicycle and what you’d like to have done. After a thorough inspection, I’ll explain which components may need replacement based on the bike’s condition. Safety is my top priority as I will never return a bicycle that isn’t in full, safe working order. In some cases, a bike may be too damaged to repair, and I’ll provide honest recommendations on the best path forward. Please note that I do not offer structural repairs to bicycle frames or forks and do not service bikes with this type of damage.
2.) COMPONENT REPLACEMENT OPTIONS: Worn, rusted, or damaged components must be replaced to ensure safety and optimal performance. I will provide a detailed list of recommended replacements, along with various options and pricing to fit your needs. In most cases, tires, inner tubes, and handlebar grips or wrap are the most susceptible to dry rot and should be replaced. Additionally, chains, drivetrain components, and wheels can suffer from corrosion, and I offer replacement options to restore your bike’s functionality and longevity.
3.) PRICING QUOTE: After assessing your bicycle and identifying necessary repairs or replacements, I will provide a detailed pricing quote outlining the cost of parts and labor. This ensures complete transparency, so you know exactly what to expect before any work begins. If multiple repair or upgrade options are available, I’ll present different pricing tiers to fit your budget and needs. To keep the restoration process smooth and efficient, I include a 20% overage allowance in your quote for any unexpected parts that may be needed. This helps prevent delays and ensures your bike gets the attention it deserves without unnecessary back-and-forth communication.
50% of the quote is due at time work is scheduled. Rest assured, no additional work beyond the quoted amount will be done without your approval. I’m always happy to answer any questions and will keep you informed every step of the way, including sending photos of progress, ensuring you feel confident in every decision about your bike’s restoration.
4.) WORK COMPLETION & FINAL INSPECTION: Once all repairs and restorations are complete, I conduct a thorough final inspection to ensure your bicycle is in safe, top-performing condition. I test all key components, including the brakes, drivetrain, and wheels, to confirm everything is functioning properly. Before returning your bike, I’ll review the completed work with you, provide maintenance recommendations, and answer any questions you may have. My goal is to ensure you feel confident and excited to ride your restored bicycle for years to come!

I take great pride in bringing bicycles back to life, whether it’s a full restoration or a simple refresh. Every bike has a story, and I’m here to help you keep yours rolling for years to come. If you’re ready to restore your bike or have any questions about the process, please reach out today. 🚴♂️
